How Much Will This Snow Cost Nyack

As we brace for yet another snow storm my mind often wonders, “what will this really cost the tax payers and business owners of Nyack”. Who is really footing the bill? After numerous searches on the web,  I can only conclude that nobody really knows! The Power Company and New York state are footing the lions share, but that really just comes out of our pockets in the end. The cost of municipal snow removal is built into the budget already. Plows are owned, salt was bought, and overtime was supposedly figured in. This should translate into no additional tax burden. One can only hope. The small business owner has to deal with snow removal costs as well. There is also lost business during the actual snow fall. Restaurants are reeling from Covid restrictions and the lose of what little revenue is left to snow might be the final curtain for many eating establishments. For many others, business will just happen on another day, making it deferred rather than lost revenue. Many types of business now run as efficiently from home as in the office thanks to computers and the internet as again Covid restrictions have proven.

The bottom line is snow is very expensive to some residents and just an inconvenience to most.Image title
